Last Saturday my good friend Carl, a young, aspiring farmer who volunteers at Everdale every year, visited Jen and me at our new place in Toronto. He lives only a few blocks away, it turns out. It was fun to see him again; he's got such a positive aura about him. We tested the waters at the organic cafe down the lane called Yasi's Place, which I'm quite the fan of. They describe themselves quite exactly as I would: "Yasi's place is an oasis in a post-industrial neighbourhood packed with great people." They try to buy in organic, fair-trade, local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible. It's run sans-pretension by two Turkish sisters who took to renovating the place just over a year ago.

Then yesterday Meta, Chris and I drove to Cobourg in a rental car to perform some off-the-cuff songage for an event my dad had organized at the library, a talk by Mike Nickerson, the author of Life, Money, and Illusion. I really enjoyed listening to the different insights of people, especially from members of the audience. It's nice to reconnect with people who understand the urgent need for our species to evolve a new society based on new values. I also found out about another upcoming event hosted by the Trent Greens (a grassroots environmental group formed by students of Trent University in Peterborough). I'll post more details about it as I get them.

Have a look:
